Hurricane Shutter System

Patent No: US 6,996,934 B2 & 7,131,480 B2
Made in the USA with USA Products

Briscoe Shutters Inc. manufactures the strongest most elegant Bahama and Colonial Hurricane Shutters on the market.  Our Miami-Dade County Product Control Approved Hurricane Shutters are the only shutter on the market with fixed slats (louvers) with a 1/8” perpendicular opening between each slat from jamb to jamb or jamb to vertical mullion to jamb.  All the OTHER Miami-Dade County Product Control Approved shutters on the market require a solid or slotted backer panel to pass the strict testing by Miami-Dade County Building Code Compliance Office.

BSI Hurricane Shutters are attached to an Aluminum Build out Frame (BOF) - 1” x 4” x 1/8” (standard) aluminum tube that is welded together to create a picture frame that surrounds the window or door opening. The BOF enhances the architectural beauty creating the look of trim or a band around the window or door opening.  We factory assemble the shutter to the BOF then disassemble the units for shipping.  This insures quality control; making installation simple, just attach the BOF to the building then the Shutter to the BOF.

The BOF is very hard to distinguish between wood trim or stucco bands, most inquires do not realize that the BOF is part of the Hurricane Shutter design, see the photos on the Hurricane Shutter – Bahama & Colonial pages.

Our Miami-Dade County Product Control Approved Hurricane Shutters maximum design pressure: Plus (+) 84.7 psf (pounds per square foot) and Negative (-) 113.3 psf, Wind Velocity (mph).

BSI started selling shutters in 2002, we offered a 1-Year Warranty, today our Hurricane and Decorative Shutters has a 10-Year Limited Warranty (click to open).  We have never had a complaint or a repair; there is nothing that will wear out on our shutter systems.

Attributes:

BSI Shutter Systems:
Build Out Frame (BOF) and Shutter Frames are miter cut, welded, ground, and sanded to a
smooth surface, weld guides, slats, and back covers are welded to the shutter frame.  We do not use screws or pop rivet to assemble our Shutter Frames every component is welded.  The hinge assembly and Colonial Hold Open Brackets are screwed to the BOF and Shutters, our products will not sag when you push one side out the other comes out equally

Build our Frame (BOF):  1” x 4” x 1/8” (standard) Aluminum Tube 6063-T52
BSI Hurricane Shutter Systems has a Build Out Frame (BOF) that attaches to the building (inside clear opening is 1/4" larger then the building opening), depth of the BOF is governed by the glass separation, furthest outward glass surface to the back of the shutter slats.  Distance from the face of the building to furthest outward glass surface, minus (-) minimum glass separation = Depth of BOF (minimum BOF depth 1”).  Shutters are factory assembled to the BOF then disassemble for shipping and installation, we provide all hardware and fasteners for a complete job, you supply the labor and tools

Shutter Frame: 1-1/2” x 2” x 1/8” Aluminum Tube 6063-T52
Miter cut, welded, ground, and sanded to a smooth finish

Slats:  1/4" x 1” Aluminum Flat Bar 6063-T52
Hidden Welds; Our Hurricane Systems use a weld guide for spacing the slats, perpendicular opening is exactly 1/8”, the weld guides are tack welded to the shutter frame, slats are welded to the shutter frame, then a back cover is welded onto the weld guide to conceal the welds.
